Botulinum toxin is the most frequently performed cosmetic treatment of all—and the one where discretion is paramount. My goal isn't a smooth, sleek face, but one that looks rested and still reflects your natural expression. That's why I tend to use a lower dose than usual and follow up after two weeks.

Botox® Botulinum toxin type A is a registered trademark and the property of its respective manufacturer. I exclusively use products approved in Austria, including Botox®. I will inform you which product will be used before your treatment. This is a prescription medication that must be administered by a physician.

What botulinum toxin does in the face

Botulinum toxin type A temporarily inhibits the transmission of signals between nerves and muscles. As a result, the treated muscle works less effectively, and the skin above it wrinkles less. This is effective for expression lines, meaning lines caused by movement. Wrinkles that are deeply etched even when the face is completely still can be softened, but not eliminated—that's a matter of skin quality and requires a different treatment.

Which areas I treat

• Frown lines — the vertical lines between the eyebrows
• Forehead wrinkles — the horizontal lines of the forehead
• crow's feet — the wrinkles at the sides of the eyes
• Jaw muscle (masseter) in cases of teeth grinding and bruxism
• Excessive underarm sweating

The process

• Discussion and analysis. I observe your face both calmly and in motion and ask what bothers you. Only then do we decide together whether and what makes sense.
• Enlightenment. Effects, limitations, risks and alternatives, written consent.
• Treatment. A few punctures with a very thin needle, about ten to fifteen minutes, usually without anesthesia.
• Follow-up examination after 14 days. It's included in the price. If anything needs adjusting, we'll do it there.

Effect and duration

The effects begin after three to seven days and are fully developed after about two weeks. They typically last three to four months. The exact duration depends on muscle strength, metabolism, dosage, and the area treated. Those who undergo regular treatment over a longer period often require fewer sessions.

Risks and side effects

• Bruises, small welts or a feeling of pressure at the injection site, usually subside within a few days.
• Headaches in the first few days
• Temporary asymmetry of facial expressions
• Rarely, a drooping of an eyelid or eyebrow may occur, which usually resolves itself over several weeks.
• Rarely, a flu-like feeling occurs shortly after treatment.

Treatment is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in cases of neuromuscular transmission disorders such as myasthenia gravis, in cases of infection in the treatment area, and in cases of known hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation. Please inform me beforehand of any medications you are currently taking.

Aftercare — what to keep in mind

• No sports, sauna, or tanning beds on the day of treatment.
• Do not massage or press the treated areas for the first few hours.
• Do not lie flat for about four hours
• Use facial expressions normally — that's no problem, on the contrary

Cost

Treatment with botulinum toxin in the face: one region 200 €, two regions 320 €, three regions 400 €. Duration approximately 20 to 25 minutes.

Separate prices apply for individual indications: Masticatory muscle in case of teeth grinding €400, trapezius muscle €400, excessive sweating of the armpits €570.

When I advise against it

There are situations in which I advise against treatment: very deep resting wrinkles that reflect skin quality rather than muscle activity; expectations that cannot be met with botulinum toxin; or an appointment immediately before an important event, because the effect can only be assessed after two weeks. Sometimes the best treatment is not to have a treatment at all.

Can you tell that I've had something done?

It's a matter of dosage and placement, not the active ingredient. A high dose will result in a blank, expressionless face. I dose it so that facial expressions are preserved and lines are softened.

Does the treatment hurt?

The needles are very thin. Most people describe it as a brief prick. Anesthesia is usually not necessary.

How often do I need to come back?

Two to three treatments per year are typical. There is no obligation to repeat them—if you skip them, your original facial expressions will simply return.

Is it possible to reverse botulinum toxin injections?

No, there is no antidote. However, the effect is temporary and will subside completely. That's precisely why I prefer to start with a low dose and increase it at the follow-up appointment, rather than the other way around.

At what age is this advisable?

There is no upper or lower age limit, only an indication. It becomes advisable when lines begin to appear even when the face is at rest. With very young patients, I ask more detailed questions about the reasons why.

What is the difference between Botox® and hyaluronic acid?

Botulinum toxin specifically relaxes muscles and affects wrinkles caused by movement. Hyaluronic acid It replaces volume and structure. Both can complement each other — the analysis in the initial consultation will clarify what makes sense for you.
