The chin plays a key role in determining how a face appears in profile—often more so than the nose, which is discussed far more frequently. A receding or poorly defined chin makes the lower third of the face appear shorter, the nose larger, and the transition to the neck less distinct. This can be corrected with hyaluronic acid in approximately 25 minutes—without surgery and without downtime.
When chin treatment makes sense
Not every chin that looks bothersome in the mirror needs treatment. Treatment is typically advisable in the following cases:
- Insufficient projection. In profile, the chin is clearly set back behind the lower lip. This is the most common starting position.
- A short lower third of the face. The face appears squat downwards; some length at the chin restores the proportions.
- Asymmetry. The chin is slightly offset to the side — small differences can be compensated for, but complete symmetry is not a realistic goal.
- A restless "cobblestone chin". The answer here is not volume, but a small amount. Botulinum toxin, which relaxes the overactive chin muscle.
- The combination with the jawline. chin and Jawline They are anatomically related; often the contour only becomes visible as a line when both are present.
If, however, the chin is significantly recessed skeletally—meaning the bone itself is the cause—a filler reaches its limits. In that case, an orthodontic or surgical evaluation is the more honest approach, and I will tell you that.
What I work with
On my chin I use a firmer, highly cross-linked material. Hyaluronic acid-Preparation as in the lips. It is placed deep, directly on the bone — there it provides support without being felt as a small ball. Soft preparations, such as those used for the lips If they were correct, they would give way here and not create any contour. I generally don't use permanent materials: the face changes over the years, the material doesn't.
The process
- Analysis. I look at your profile and frontal view at rest and in motion — chin, lower lip, jaw angle and neck contour in relation to each other.

The contour is immediately visible. For the first one to three days, the chin may be slightly swollen, bruising is possible, and this usually subsides within a week. You can resume your normal social activities on the same day. The results typically last twelve to eighteen months on the chin—longer than in more mobile areas.
Risks
- Swelling, pressure sensation and bruising in the first few days
- Tangible irregularities, mostly temporary
- Asymmetry — when in doubt, add less and add more later
- Rare, but serious: vascular occlusions. Therefore, only hyaluronic acid is used, which can be dissolved in an emergency, and therefore medical knowledge of anatomy in this area is not a formality.
Aftercare — what to keep in mind
- No sports, sauna, or tanning beds on the day of treatment.
- Do not massage or press the chin during the first few hours.
- Do not lie flat for about four hours
- Plan at least two weeks between important appointments.

When I advise against it
If the desired change could only be achieved surgically. If there is already a lot of filler material and the contour has become uneven—then dissolving it is a better first step than adding more. And if the desired change stems from a template that doesn't suit your face: A chin that is beautiful on its own might not look right on your face.

How long does a chin treatment last?

How much material do I need?
Usually one to two milliliters. The crucial factor is not the quantity, but the placement: one milliliter in the right spot changes the profile significantly more than two milliliters that are incorrectly distributed.
Can you see the result immediately?
Yes, the contour is immediately visible. Slight swelling may occur during the first one to three days, making the result appear somewhat more pronounced. We should assess it after about two weeks.
Is it possible to reverse the treatment?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid can be specifically targeted using the enzyme hyaluronic acidase. dissolve again. This is a separate appointment with its own explanation — and one of the reasons why I work exclusively with hyaluronic acid on the chin and not with permanent materials.
Does the treatment help against a double chin?
Only indirectly. A receding chin makes the transition to the neck appear shorter—bringing the chin forward often creates a more defined silhouette.
